Elder Chris Crouse – Poor in Spirit and Those that Mourn
The poor in spirit come before Christ completely bankrupt, but through him we have great riches, and Christ proclaims the kingdom presently belongs to us. Elder Chris examines the phrase poor in spirit by considering David’s sins, pointing out that even the best of men are just men at best. Christ goes on to say blessed are those that mourn. Elder Chris suggests this mourning is over the sins committed, and we shall be comforted. No matter how bad our sin, when we come with a broken spirit, Christ has the power to forgive. Great comfort comes when he says we are forgiven and to “go in peace.”
