Elder Chris Crouse – An Afflicted and Poor People
Elder Chris looks at a passage from Zephaniah, who was the very last prophet before the children of Israel go into captivity. In a time of a very wicked king, Zephaniah was given a name meaning “God will protect him,” and God lived up to that expectation. Zephaniah writes of destruction and “I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.” Elder Chris turns his attention to us and asks if we feel to be an afflicted and poor people, sojourning in a land that is not ours, longing to go home. He reminds us that when Christ comes again we’ll be taken to a place where we will never be afflicted and poor again, in the presence of our Lord who loves us.
